Hudson Valley artist specializing in fine art
PEN AND INK DRAWING
LANDSCAPE OIL PAINTING

Welcome to the website of
Judith Beringer Hraniotis
An artist of the Mid Hudson Valley specializing in landscape oil painting and pen & ink drawings. Living in the historic Mid Hudson Valley in New York State provides ample subject matter for plein air (open air painting) and pen and ink drawings. Over the years, my landscape painting in oils has evolved from an impressionistic style, into a more tonal quality of realism. The varied atmospheric conditions during the changing seasons, strongly influence my art. The Hudson Valley also offers a richness of subjects; from the diminishing old dairy farms with the backdrop of the Catskill Mountains, to the majesty of the Hudson River Highlands.
Through the use of a crow quill pen dipped in India Ink, I enjoy portraying our unique rural architecture, which is continually threatened by the bulldozer in the name of progress. Each line drawn fluctuates with the amount of pressure applied. For example, a thin and fragile line is accomplished with a light touch; where as a thick strong and powerful line results more pressure applied . In my drawings, the delicate lines of a century old Victorian home are oft times juxtaposed against stately trees drawn with a heavier application of ink.
Whether out in the fields or on the shores of the Hudson, nature inspires me with her beauty affecting all my senses. Capturing these feelings while painting or drawing results in rich and wonderful rewards. The preserved image of a historic structures and open farm fields will be appreciated for generations and this encapsulates my love of art.
